The Arts Society Shrewsury is dedicated to supporting community enterprises that encourage young people to access a wide variety of art projects. We believe that it is important to help nurture the talents of young people who may not otherwise experience the wide ranging opportunities that all areas of the arts gives them.
Projects during 2026
We have been a keen sponsor of The Bookfest Art Competition that runs alongside the Bookfest biennial Book Award and this year was no exception. The art was of a very high standard it was hard to believe these were just years 5 & 6 students.
We provided wooden art boxes for the best picture from each school and also for the overall 1st, 2nd & 3rd place. These were presented to the winners in April at the showcase event in Theatre Severn, which is always is an inspiring event demonstrating the enthusiasm of our Shropshire youngsters when given the opportunity to participate in literature and the rest of the arts.
In May, we held our inaugural GCSE Art Exhibition & Competition in conjunction with Shrewsbury High School. 13 Shropshire schools participated entering a total of 61 pieces of art. We were overwhelmed by its success with nearly 200 people attending the exhibition at Shrewsbury High School Pavillion. I’m sure you have all seen the press coverage in The Shropshire Magazine ( a first for a while for our society) and we understand it will also be featured in the next issue of The Arts Society Magazine. Watch that space!!
We also sponsored Coleham Primary School to attend an art workshop organised by The Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery. The feedback we received from the Museum staff demonstrated how valuable this opportunity was to the students.
Following up on our support last year for the Foodbank in Shrewsbury we donated colouring pencils to be included in the Christmas hampers.
The Arts Society Shrewsbury plays an extremely important role in Shropshire supporting a wide variety of projects, none of this would be possible without your generosity at our monthly raffles so a big REALLY BIG THANK YOU. This year two of our projects also benefitted from 6 of our members generously giving their time and skills to act as judges. I would like to thank them for their time.
