The Arts Society Shrewsbury, formed in 1982, is a member society of the Arts Society, one of some 384 member societies in the UK and mainland Europe, and even in New Zealand and Australia.  We are also part of The Arts Society West Midlands Area.

Our members come from all over Shropshire and meet in the afternoon on the third Wednesday of each month, except July and August, at the Sovereign Suite, Shrewbury Town Football Club (see 'Lectures' in menu above) ten times a year.  We offer members the opportunity to join a varied programme of Special Interest Days, visits to galleries, museums and historic buildings within a day’s travelling of Shrewsbury and also arrange an annual four day tour further afield.

We are actively engaged in supporting local Arts Volunteering projects and our Church Recording group has just completed its fourth survey.  Our Heritage Volunteers are supporting projects at Shrewsbury Abbey and The Soldiers of Shropshire Museum at Shrewsbury Castle.

Our aims are to offer you an opportunity to enrich your knowledge and interest in all aspects of the arts, to meet people of like mind in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere, and to foster active participation in the preservation of our cultural heritage.

We welcome new members; If you would like to join The Arts Society Shrewsbury please complete and return the downloadable membership form which you can find by clicking Our Society/Documents at the top of this page. Or contact us here for more information.  We look forward to seeing you!

GCSE Art Competition & Exhibition hosted at The Shrewsbury High School Pavilion - May 2026

As part of our Young Arts Programme, we organised this Competition and Exhibition for all schools in Shropshire. Teachers were asked to pick the 5 best students' art from their GSCE 1st Year classes and we awarded a prize for First Place and two Highly Commended. The Exhibition took place at The Shrewsbury High School Pavilion and we had 13 local schools participate. It was a huge success and we are very grateful to all members who support Young Arts through our monthly raffles and make events like this possible.

As part of our Autumn 2026 Programme we are hoping to run a similar event for Year 12 students across Shropshire

Details of the GCSE Competition & Exhibition found in The Arts Society Shrewsbury Visits section and in the Documents Store.

Bookfest 2026

We were so pleased to once again support the bi-annual Bookfest art competition, which culminated in the presentation of the prizes at the Theatre Severn on 21st April. The competition is open to all primary schools across Shropshire for young people in Years 5 and 6 and they could submit their work in the following categories – art, poetry, letters and film trailers. We sponsored the art category and provided three judges - many thanks to Gloria Partridge, Blanche James and Gaynor Bowen who had a very challenging task as all the entries were of a very high standard.

All the prize winners have their artwork displayed on the top floor of Theatre Severn. We really do recommend that you go and have a look their work, it is amazing. You can also see them here in the  Documents Store.
